Thuringia: Census 2022: Owners face a fine of 300 euros

As part of the housing census in the census, reminders have already been sent in Thuringia. Anyone who fails to submit data must expect hefty fines.

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Anyone who has not yet submitted data for the census of buildings and apartments in the 2022 census may soon have to pay a fine of 300 euros. The State Office for Statistics has already sent corresponding reminders, said head of department Klaus Kickner of the German Press Agency. This affects about 16 percent of the apartment and building owners in Thuringia who have not yet submitted their data for the census. A total of around 546,000 people have already answered the questions.

So far, the survey has not been successful, especially in communities that were affected by the local government reforms, said Kickner. In order to get as complete a picture as possible, one is dependent on all the data.

The census is subject to a legal obligation to provide information. Anyone who does not participate risks a fine. Questions were asked about the size, use and type of heating of the property, for example.

In the household survey, the first survey by interviewers has been completed. In isolated cases, households would still be asked about implausible or contradictory information, said Kickner. Some households are also still required to provide information as part of the repeat survey. The vast majority of respondents who had to fill out an additional questionnaire did so online.
