Thuringia: Diocese of Erfurt: Additional tax revenue for social work

Erfurt (dpa/th) - According to its own statements, the diocese of Erfurt makes all of its church tax revenue from the energy price flat rate for employed persons available to the Catholic social association Caritas. The income amounted to 330,000 euros, the diocese announced on Saturday. Caritas is supposed to help people who are particularly suffering from the increased energy and living costs. The social association runs, among other things, debt counseling centers, food banks and day clubs.

The one-time lump sum of 300 euros gross decided by the federal government was paid out to employed persons in September. Since they have to pay tax on the money, they also have to pay church tax.
