Thuringia: Few procedures because of Holocaust relativizations

In Thuringia, thousands of people regularly took to the streets against the corona vaccination and protective measures. Some wore a so-called Jewish star, often with the inscription "unvaccinated". Did that have consequences for her?

Erfurt (dpa/th) - In the past few months, the police and judiciary in Thuringia have very rarely dealt with people who are said to have worn so-called Jewish stars in the course of the anti-corona protests. According to a response from the Thuringian Ministry of the Interior to a small inquiry from Left-wing member of the state parliament Katharina König-Preuss, investigations were carried out in four cases across the country.

The identification of opponents of the corona protection measures is said to have been shown twice in Erfurt, and also once each in Gotha and Saalfeld. The so-called Jewish star was imposed on Jews as an anti-Semitic label during the Nazi regime.

During the corona protests last autumn and winter, some corona deniers and opponents of vaccination had the label with the inscription "unvaccinated" attached to their clothing. In doing so, they expressed that they felt similarly persecuted because of the corona-related restrictions as Jews who were systematically murdered during the Nazi dictatorship. Wearing the symbol at Corona protests can be understood as putting the Holocaust into perspective.

The reply shows that the outcome of the proceedings varied: in one case an application was made for an arrest warrant to be issued, in another case charges were brought. One case is still under investigation and one has been dropped.
