Thuringia: Funds support hospice work with 3.6 million euros

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The increase in home care for the dying continues in Thuringia. As can be seen from a joint statement by the health insurance companies on Thursday, more than 1740 people, including 159 children and young people, were accompanied by volunteers in the last phase of their lives last year. Of the 32 outpatient hospice services in Thuringia, seven are for children. Both the number of terminally ill people in outpatient care and the services have increased.

The 32 outpatient hospice services in Thuringia could therefore expect more money from the statutory health insurance companies this year, it said. More than 3.6 million euros would be made available (previous year 3.4 million euros). The funds are, among other things, for the training, further education and further training of the many volunteers who accompany dying people in the last phase of their lives and families in this process.

Hospice services could also apply to the cash registers for subsidies for rent, office supplies or travel expenses. Expenditure for corona protection measures would also be taken into account this year.
