Thuringia: IHK Südthüringen praises nuclear power word from Chancellor Scholz

Suhl (dpa/th) - The Southern Thuringia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) has welcomed Chancellor Olaf Scholz's (SPD) word of power over nuclear power plants. However, this decision should have been made months ago and not shortly before the intended final shutdown, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce announced in Suhl on Tuesday. In addition, the term extension should not be limited to just a few months.

Scholz spoke on Monday in the nuclear dispute between the Greens and the FDP. The Chancellor instructed the responsible federal ministries to make legislative proposals so that the three power plants Isar 2, Neckarwestheim 2 and Emsland can continue to run until April 15, 2023 at the latest.

"From our point of view, the extension of the lifetime of the nuclear power plants until April 2023 is also not sufficient to ensure security of supply permanently or at least until after the winter of 2023/24," said Jan Scheftlein, deputy IHK general manager. All available power generation capacities will be needed over the next two winters.
