Erfurt (dpa/th) - The Evangelical Church in Central Germany (EKMD) wants to equip more church roofs with photovoltaic systems in the future. "In Thuringia, everyone agrees in principle that when it comes to photovoltaics on church roofs, it's not a question of whether, but of how," said Elke Bergt, head of the construction department at the EKMD's regional church office. In principle, monument protection, authorities and churches work together much better in Thuringia than in the other federal states in which the EKMD is represented.
In the parishes, which as owners of the churches are responsible for the actual implementation, there is basically a lot of interest, said Pastor Jens Bechtloff, Commissioner for the Preservation of Creation and Participation in the Eisleben-Sömmerda Church District. A fundamental rethinking of the approval authorities is necessary.
