Thuringia: International dance theater festival started in Erfurt

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The eighth International Dance Theater Festival started in Erfurt. The first dancers came to a workshop in Erfurt on Saturday. The first evening of the week-long festival is scheduled to start on Saturday with a dance competition in which contemporary choreographies from Europe will be danced for the benefit of a jury headed by Ester Ambrosino, the artistic director of Tanztheater Erfurt.

This year, the Tanztheater Erfurt will be supported with its own productions by artists from Switzerland, France, Italy, Scotland, Slovakia, Hungary and Greece with guest performances. These include the dance pieces "Dodai" by Stefan Sing, "My Body is Your Body" and Kenji Shinohe's "Action Briquette" with the combination of Japanese manga onomatopoeia. Experienced dancers can also try their hand at workshops as part of the festival.

The festival takes place every two years; this time for the first time mainly in the central heating Erfurt not far from the theater. The fact that the otherwise full and around two-week supporting program for the dance workshops and performances was canceled also has something to do with the corona pandemic. "All artists are exhausted," said the cultural manager of the dance theater, Claudia Dell. The past two years have left their mark.
