Excited little ones with bags of candy: all over the country, school beginners celebrate the initiation of school with their families. Most ABC shooters look forward to the first day of school with joy.

Erfurt (dpa/th) - A new phase of life began for around 18,860 first graders in Thuringia on Saturday. Across the country, elementary schools and families celebrated the inauguration of schools in mixed weather. Traditionally, children from higher grades put on small programs for the newcomers. Traditionally, the high point for those starting school was the handing over of the sugar cones filled with sweets, toys and crayons in the elementary schools.

The new ABC shooters will complete their first day of classes on Monday in the 428 Thuringian elementary schools. After the end of the summer holidays, the new school year begins for more than 251,000 children and young people from all school types. After two years of the pandemic, you can expect an almost normal school day without the obligation to wear a mask and mandatory tests.

According to the Ministry of Education, the number of first graders in Thuringia has increased slightly by around 200 compared to the previous school year. They complete four years of elementary school before moving on to mainstream or grammar school.
