Thuringia: Minister calls for more money for energy renovation

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Thuringia's Infrastructure Minister Susanna Karawanskij (left) wants more money in the budget for the energy-efficient renovation of buildings. An additional 100 million euros would be needed every year to completely modernize the state's own building stock in the Free State by 2045 and to provide incentives for the real estate industry, said the minister on Friday at the Thuringian Building Day in Erfurt.

"Climate neutrality in the construction sector is an extremely challenging goal that public and private builders can only achieve with massive investments," emphasized the minister. The recently forecast additional tax revenue for the state would offer financial leeway for important future tasks such as energy-efficient construction and renovation. These should be used with care.

According to the autumn tax estimate, 750 million euros more will come into the state coffers than is estimated in this year's budget. Finance Minister Heike Taubert (SPD) wants to primarily stabilize the state's reserves.

According to the information, there are around 530,000 residential buildings in Thuringia. As the largest property owner, the state is responsible for 1,400 buildings, of which around 800 are energetically relevant. According to the ministry, in order to achieve the goal of climate neutrality by 2045, private and public real estate owners must invest 3.4 billion euros per year. The state also had to raise its own money for further incentives, said the minister.

A total of around 75 billion euros would be needed by 2045 for the energetic renovation of Thuringia's housing stock. The real estate industry, which has generated good earnings in recent years, is also required here. The total refurbishment requirement for state-owned properties was estimated at around 1.6 billion euros.

Energetic refurbishment includes heat insulation measures, the replacement of old and leaking windows and external doors, the installation of new heating systems and the purchase of ventilation systems with heat recovery.
