Thuringia: New bridge for pedestrians and cyclists released

Erfurt (dpa/th) - After two years of construction, a new bridge for cyclists and pedestrians has been released in Erfurt. The 107 meter long promenade deck connects the city center and the main train station with the district of Krampfervorstadt, as announced by the Thuringian Ministry for Infrastructure on Friday. In order to structurally connect the district, the promenade deck is essential.

"In terms of urban development, it is of outstanding importance for the city of Erfurt, improves the quality of life and stay in the surrounding areas and strengthens barrier-free pedestrian and bicycle traffic," said Infrastructure Minister Susanna Karawanskij (left) according to the announcement. Pedestrians and cyclists could now cross the Flutgraben and Stauffenbergallee that previously separated the district from the city center.

According to the ministry, the costs for the construction project amounted to 14 million euros. 10.8 million of these were made available by the ministry from a European fund for regional development.
