Offenbach/Erfurt (dpa/th) - Thuringia was one of the coolest federal states in October of this year, which was warmer than average. As in Bavaria, the average temperature was 12.1 degrees Celsius, as reported by the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach on Monday. Nevertheless, the previous October temperature record from 2001 was surpassed by 0.2 degrees. The average for the years 1961 to 1990 of 8.4 degrees was exceeded even more.
According to the DWD, the Free State had 140 hours of sunshine in October, 33 hours more than the long-term average. In comparison, Berlin and Brandenburg had significantly more sunshine to offer with 175 hours of sunshine each. With a rainfall of 45 liters per square meter, the long-term average (48 liters) in Thuringia was not reached.
In Germany, October's average temperature of 12.5 degrees is 3.5 degrees above the value of the internationally valid reference period 1961 to 1990. Compared to the current and warmer period 1991 to 2020, the deviation is 3.1 degrees.
