Thuringia: Railway power line is to run from Pölzig to Gera

Erfurt (dpa/th) - For the electrification of the Weimar-Gera-Gößnitz railway line, a power line is to be built from Pölzig (Greiz district) to Gera. This is the result of the spatial planning process, Deutsche Bahn AG announced on Friday. Sections of the route are to be bundled with the lines of the energy supplier Thüringen Energie Netze for environmental and economic reasons.

With the conclusion of the regional planning process, the technical planning for the construction of the power line and the coordination of the environmental planning measures will now begin. In 2024, the railway wants to submit the documents for the planning approval process for the power line.

After the federal government had confirmed the economic feasibility of the electrification and thus approved the financing, Deutsche Bahn was able to initiate the next planning steps immediately. At the same time, the planning for the double track expansion financed by the Free State of Thuringia was continued.
