Thuringia: Strong price increases bring industry sales growth

Erfurt (dpa/th) - In the first half of 2022, the industry in Thuringia saw sales growth due to sharply increased prices. From January to June, the turnover of companies with 50 and more employees was 18.4 billion euros, as announced by the State Office for Statistics in Erfurt on Friday. That was 12 percent or two billion euros more than in the same period last year.

According to the information, the sales leader was the Wartburg district with 2.124 billion euros, followed by Gotha with 1.820 billion, the Ilm district with 1.560 billion and the city of Jena with 1.360 billion euros. The highest absolute sales growth compared to the same period last year was achieved in the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt (plus 248.2 million euros; plus 25.6 percent), the Saale-Orla district (plus 160.3 million euros; plus 16.2 percent) and Schmalkalden-Meiningen (plus 131.6 million euros; plus 13.5 percent).

The export rate, the share of foreign sales in total sales, averaged 37.2 percent in the first half of 2022. It was thus 0.2 percentage points below the comparable prior-year period.
