The last weekend in October offered almost ideal conditions for hikers, cyclists and sun-seekers. Many people enjoyed the beautiful weather outdoors.

Offenbach/Erfurt (dpa/th) - Thuringia experienced a golden October weekend at the end of the autumn holidays. On Sunday alone, according to the German Weather Service (DWD), the temperatures sometimes rose to more than 25 degrees Celsius. Lots of people went outside. In downtown Weimar, the street bars were densely populated, and long lines sometimes formed at the ice cream parlors. Sun-seekers enjoyed another sunbath in the Park an der Ilm before the first signs of cooling became noticeable on Monday. There were many cyclists and day trippers on the Ilm cycle path.

According to the DWD, the highest temperatures in Thuringia were measured on Sunday in Krölpa-Rockendorf in the Saale-Orla district with 25.6 degrees and Bad Berka in the Weimarer Land (25.4 degrees). It was also still spring-like on the crest path of the Thuringian Forest - 20.5 degrees were measured in Neuhaus am Rennweg, on the 916 meter high Schmücke it was almost 19 degrees.

However, the temperatures did not reach the warmest October day in Thuringia to date, October 4, 1985: At that time, 29 degrees Celsius were measured. "But for the end of October it was definitely record values," said a DWD spokesman. It should gradually cool down over the next few days.

In October of this year, which was warmer than average, Thuringia was one of the coolest federal states in a comparison of the federal states. As in Bavaria, the average temperature was 12.1 degrees Celsius, according to the DWD. Nevertheless, the previous October temperature record from 2001 was surpassed by 0.2 degrees. The average for the years 1961 to 1990 of 8.4 degrees was exceeded even more.

According to the DWD, the Free State had 140 hours of sunshine in October, 33 hours more than the long-term average. With a rainfall of 45 liters per square meter, the long-term average (48 liters) in Thuringia was not reached.
