The only crime I have ever committed has been fearlessly defending this nation from those who seek to destroy it."
Trump thus laid the foundations of his defense, which will not only be carried out in court, but also before the jury of public opinion. For this, he has a very special ally: the Prosecutor's car. The 34 criminal charges against the former president do not appear to have a clear legal path to conviction judging by the opinion of the vast majority of legal experts in the United States, including former associates of Barack Obama (Van Jones) and to the greatest opponent of the former president within the Republican Party: the senator and former presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Another prominent Republican who has also launched a campaign to keep Trump from being a candidate in 2024, his own former National Security Adviser, John Bolton, has stated that there is no legal basis to convict Trump with the indictment filed in Manhattan.

The former president limited himself to launching an electoral speech in which he recapitulated the accusations that have been made against him since he entered politics - the 'Russian plot', his interference in Ukraine, the insurrection and the assault on Congress on 6 January 2021, his interference in the elections in the state of Georgia, and the theft of State documents from the White House.
