Verena Altenberger puts an end to it: Surprising exit from "Polizeiruf 110"

In 2019, Verena Altenberger, as investigator Elisabeth "Bessie" Eyckhoff, became the focus of Munich's "Police Call 110". Now, after six editions, it's over at the request of the 34-year-old. It is unclear who will follow.

She followed in the huge footsteps of Matthias Brandt - and now, completely surprisingly, is leaving again after less than four years. As reported by Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), Verena Altenberger is putting an end to the Munich "Police call 110". In autumn 2022, the actress will be in front of the camera for the sixth and last time as Commissioner Elisabeth "Bessie" Eyckhoff for the ARD crime series. The 34-year-old is looking for "new acting challenges," says the statement.

We are very sorry that Altenberger is leaving the film series. "It was difficult for me to say goodbye to the Munich 'police call', Elisabeth Eyckhoff has become very dear to me over the past four years," explains the Austrian herself. She is a person who likes to go when it's most beautiful.

Now she's moving on and looking for new challenges. She is grateful and learned a lot during the time at the "Police Call 110". The planned broadcast of her last assignment is the first half of 2023, the working title of the film is "Paranoia". A final name of the film or a specific broadcast date for their farewell have not yet been determined. A successor for Altenberger is also not yet under discussion.

In 1997, the BR entered the "Polizeiruf 110" production. So far, Gaby Dohm, Edgar Selge and Michaela May have been investigating in Bavaria. In 2011, Matthias Brandt took over the helm as Chief Inspector Hanns von Meuffels, who voluntarily left after 15 episodes in 2018. Five of his critically acclaimed episodes have been nominated for Grimme Awards. Altenberger was given this honor thanks to her first appearance as a "Police Call 110" investigator in "The Place From Which the Clouds Come".
