The normal temperature of a healthy cat is between 38°c and 39°c, the average temperature being 38.5°c. It should be noted that some minimal variations in temperature can be noted during the day without them being abnormal, it depends on the activity of the cat and the climatic conditions.
It is a relatively simple act and the important thing is to know how to interpret it. First of all, it is preferable to use flexible electronic thermometers, avoid the mercury thermometer which can injure the animal on a brutal gesture of the latter. After putting a little liquid soap on the metal tip of the thermometer, lift the cat's tail and insert the entire tip correctly into the anus, then wait a few minutes. During this operation, be sure to hold the animal and reassure it to avoid sudden movements.
Abnormal temperatures are theoretically outside the range of 38°c to 39°c.
We speak of fever if the temperature is above 39°c, and the cat is hypothermic if the temperature is below 38°c. It is important to react very quickly if the temperature is below 37.5°c or above 40°c, in which case it is essential to take your cat to the vet immediately.
