Then-Miss Argentina Mariana Varela and then-Miss Puerto Rico Fabiola Valentín met at a beauty pageant in 2020. But competition turns into friendship - and now even more: the two declare that they have married.
One thing is beyond question: For decades, the participants in the numerous miss contests that are held almost all over the world have had to please men in particular. Gradually there is some movement in the industry and the old sexist mechanisms are broken here and there.
That two beauty queens openly and officially reveal their love for each other would probably have been difficult to imagine a few years ago. Now, however, Mariana Varela and Fabiola Valentín, former Miss Argentina and Miss Puerto Rico respectively, make no secret of their romantic relationship. Even more: the two have announced that they have entered into the bond of marriage.
The two women posted a video of around 30 seconds on their respective Instagram accounts. They can be seen cuddling, snuggling and kissing on various occasions - on the beach, in bed, on a boat. The two captured the marriage proposal as well as their wedding rings, which they proudly hold for the camera.
"Having initially decided to keep our relationship a secret, we are now making it public on a special day: 10/28/22," reads the accompanying comment. It is likely that this is the wedding date.
Varela represented Argentina in the 2019 Miss Universe pageant. However, she and Valentín only met a year later when they both took part in a contest called Miss Grand International in Bangkok. This was launched in Thailand in 2013 and since then has mostly taken place in its country of origin.
