InnoGames: Computer game company publishes employees' salaries - and wants to be a role model

Complete transparency of salaries - regardless of the industry in Germany - is rare. This is only intended for positions in the public sector. The Hamburg-based company InnoGames is now daring to state how much is earned on the individual positions for up to 80% of their jobs.

"Salary transparency is a question of fairness - towards employees and applicants," one of the company's co-founders, Michael Zillmer, is quoted as saying on the company's website. "That's why we decided to share this information publicly, after initially making it available internally last year," he adds of the reasons behind the decision.

But how much exactly is earned on the individual positions? The InnoGames report provided earnings comparisons from junior to department head positions. A game designer, i.e. a person who creates the computer games, receives at least 42,000 euros as annual gross salary. However, the sum can increase to up to 58,000 euros. For junior game designers it starts at 34,000 and goes up to 42,000 euros per year. For senior game designers, the annual range is between 58,000 and 85,000 euros.

The salaries of all "heads" - i.e. the heads of department - are clearly in the six-digit range. Also included are salaries for marketing, administration, and analysis positions, which fall within a similar range.

With the publication of the transparency report, Andreas Lieb, Head of Human Resources at InnoGames, wants the company to experience greater employee loyalty and hopes that other companies will also decide to take this step. It is "a clear signal to potential applicants that there are no wage gaps at InnoGames," says Lieb.

InnoGames GmbH is a computer game developer and operator of browser-based and mobile online games that was founded in 2007, generates annual sales of around 190 million euros and employs around 400 people.
