Tom Sizemore, American actor known for his roles in Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, Heat, Strange Days or Pearl Harbor, has been hospitalized in Los Angeles after suffering a brain aneurysm early Saturday morning and is in critical condition, his representative said.

"He is currently in critical condition, just wait and see," the 61-year-old actor's rep, Charles Lago, wrote in an email.

Sizemore, whose film and television career has spanned decades, is best known for his roles as a battle-hardened sergeant opposite Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan (1998), and as a battalion commander of Army Rangers. Army in Black Hawk Shot Down, 2001. In 2000 he was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Movie Made for Television for his role in Protected Witness.

Sizemore has battled drug addiction for nearly as long as his career has lasted and has had multiple run-ins with law enforcement. A 2007 documentary series, "Shooting Sizemore," chronicled his efforts to get his life and career back on track after he was convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and entered rehab for methamphetamine and heroin use. The actor has been arrested for driving under the influence and drug possession multiple times in recent years.
