Five lions escape from their enclosure at a Sydney zoo. The employees who are put on alert act quickly and correctly. However, one big question remains unanswered.
In a zoo in the Australian metropolis of Sydney, five lions caused a mighty stir. Accompanied by alarm sirens, the police and keepers in Taronga Zoo searched for the escaped big cats in the morning. Because their disappearance was noticed early on, no animal lovers were in danger. The popular zoo was still closed to visitors at the time.
The lions were also found quickly, they didn't get very far. As zoo director Simon Duffy announced with relief, the predators were found after a short time in a small fenced off area next to their main enclosure. The zoo staff acted quickly, so the situation was under control within minutes. Four of the lions returned calmly to the facility. A young animal is now "awake and well" after being stunned.
Even if the tumult ended unscathed, the big question remains unanswered: how did the predators escape from their secure home? An investigation should clarify that. However, Taronga Zoo will remain open. Only the lions cannot be seen by the visitors for the time being, the enclosure will remain closed until the end of the investigation.
