Javier Gurruchaga visited the set of Días de tele on Wednesday, March 29, to remember his work on Viaje con nosotros, a variety show that premiered on TVE in 1988. Julia Otero defined it as "very groundbreaking, loaded with irreverence and provocation."
The presenter rescued a fragment of the format that generated enormous controversy at the time: "They don't know the one that was organized with a sketch of Els Joglars, by Albert Boadella, in that program." The piece ironically showed a visit by Jordi Puyol, president of Catalonia at the time, to the FC Barcelona locker room, where the Virgin of Montserrat appeared.
The guest recounted how the sketch was prepared: "It was a great embolado by maestro Albert Boadella... They didn't explain anything to me. I had several guests, humor, politics, whatever... He was a figure , of course. I bundle up and get me to Barcelona, Puyol, the Virgin...".
The 'showman' recalled that this parody reached the front pages of the press: "I took a couple of valiums because the phone did not stop ringing that night." José Miguel Contreras, a collaborator of Días de tele, pointed out that the senior managers of RTVE did not want to broadcast the piece. Pilar Miró, director of the public entity, defended her saying: "I have a commitment to Javier Gurruchaga and the team not to censor him. Therefore, go ahead."
Otero spoke about the consequences of the sketch: "There were many guests who no longer wanted to go to Viaje with us. It was a bit like the cancellation of the time." The guest added: "It did not last very long, because the program was maintained and was very successful."
In addition, he recalled that the day after the controversy he spoke with Camilo José Cela, who showed him his support. The writer visited the format, where he spoke live about his ability to absorb water anally.
Días de tele also rescued another famous sketch from Viaje con nosotros. The variety show parodied an interview by Victoria Prego with Felipe González. The journalist was played by Javier Gurruchaga, while the President of the Government at that time was played by Hervé Villechaize, a French actor who suffered from dwarfism.
The artist acknowledged on the set that this scene was prepared to "compensate" after the previous controversy and make it clear that the format was not against anyone. He talked about "balancing things out a bit." In addition, he said that Pilar Miró called the politician so that he would not miss the program. González saw the imitation and sent a letter to congratulate those responsible for the format.
