In northern Thailand, a former police officer breaks into a kindergarten and kills more than 30 people with a knife and firearms. The motive of the perpetrator is not yet known.

According to police, more than 30 people, including many children, were killed in an attack on a kindergarten in northern Thailand. A man armed with a knife and firearms stormed into a day care center in Na Klang in northern Nong Bua Lamphu province, police said.

At least 22 children were among the dead, a provincial police official said. The "Bangkok Post" reports at least 34 fatalities in total. The alleged perpetrator, a former police officer, then fled before killing himself and his family, police said. A motive for the crime is not yet known.

According to Thai media, there are twelve injured who were taken to the provincial hospital. The population was asked to donate blood for the treatment of the people.

The northeastern province of Nong Bua Lamphu lies near the border with Laos. Although many Thais own guns, mass shootings are rare in the country. In 2020, a soldier killed at least 29 people and injured 57 in a shooting spree, triggered by a failed real estate deal.
