After the long heatwave, a cooler breeze is finally blowing through the country. The temperatures remain pleasant and there are only occasional showers. However, the rain, which is so important for nature, largely stayed away in the course of the summer. But there is still hope for the fall.
In the new weather week, summer ends - at least from a meteorological point of view. Because on September 1st, the next season begins with autumn and it is time to statistically classify the summer of 2022. In terms of temperature (currently 19.3 degrees on average in Germany) and sun (currently almost 800 hours) it is in second place.
And even when it rains, or rather when it doesn't rain, one of the front and therefore very inglorious places beckons. The driest place in the past three months is Bad Kissingen in Bavaria with 28.5 liters per square meter so far. Also in Bavaria are the wettest places with over 530 liters per square meter in Chiemsee-Herrenchiemsee and Balderschwang. Oddly enough, Balderschwang is still much too dry.
Statistically, just 70 percent of the otherwise usual rain fell in summer. Incidentally, in Bad Kissingen the almost 30 liters mean only 15 percent of the rain target. Across Germany, an average of a good 140 liters fell on every square meter. That is not even 60 percent of the normal precipitation within the three summer months. And what will September bring in terms of rain: hope or horror autumn?
As things stand at present, the long-term forecasts definitely remain pinned on hope. Because the experimental forecasts of the American weather service NOAA show an average, sometimes too wet September. That would mean around 70 liters per square meter. Before that, however, the summer will largely remain true to its frugal lines in terms of the rain balance. After all: Heat is also not in sight. Here the details.
Monday night: Autumn breeze blows across the country
After the sometimes very sultry heat and storm battle, a fresh breeze is blowing over Germany. Because before high "Quintin" puts out its feelers to us, low "Ornella" has crossed us with its cold front. That means lows between 16 and 6 degrees - with haze and fog spreading in some cases. A little greeting from early autumn and a great situation to finally air and breathe properly.
Monday: Sun prevails
After the haze and fog have cleared up, the sun will shine through almost everywhere in the new weather week. Only the north-east remains grayer and initially gets some rain or drizzle. The temperatures in the southern half are often 25 to 29 degrees. Otherwise it stays fresher with 19 to 23 degrees.
Tuesday and Wednesday: Thunderstorms in the south
Thunderstorms are possible in the south, which can be severe, especially on Wednesday at the end of summer. In the rest of the country, however, it will remain friendly to sunny and - how can it be otherwise - dry. The whole thing at 19 to 29 degrees on Tuesday and 17 to 27 degrees on Wednesday.
Thursday: Fall is relaxed
September begins with fairly calm prospects. Unfortunately, rain is still not in the forecast (yet) and the sun is really good in the race, especially in the north-eastern half. In addition, the temperatures reach between 16 degrees on the Ore Mountains and up to 26 degrees on the Upper Rhine.
Friday and weekends: Lightning and thunder join in
After the first showers in the southwest on Friday, a thunderstorm will spread from France and Benelux. From today's point of view, this mainly affects the west and south of Germany on Saturday, where it is likely to be more unstable. Otherwise there is no rain in sight. Only at the beginning of the following week do the weather computers herald more changeable times and we can be curious to see whether this trend will actually be confirmed. Temperatures will be between 17 and 26 degrees on Friday and Saturday and between 18 and 28 degrees on Sunday.
