At the age of 77: After falsely spreading death notice: US actor Tony Dow died

Tony Dow has passed away. The American actor and director was 77 years old. He is best known for playing Wally Cleaver on the sitcom Grow Up. Dow died on Wednesday (July 27), as reported by his manager Frank Bilotta, citing Dow's son Christopher, according to US media reports.

Christopher Dow said in the statement, which Bilotta shared on Tony Dow's official Facebook page: "Although this is a very sad day, I have the comfort and peace that he is in a better place. He was the best father anyone could ask for. He was my coach, my mentor, my voice of reason, my best friend, my best man at my wedding and my hero".

The news comes just a day after a false report was made about the actor's death. Dow announced in May that he had been diagnosed with cancer. He leaves behind his wife and two children.

In addition to his role in "You would have to be an adult" (originally "Leave It To Beaver"), he also appeared in series such as "Lassie", "Knight Rider" or "Murder is her hobby". He has also directed television, including several episodes of the sci-fi series Babylon 5 and an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
