Defamation: 24 hours after Amber Heard's filing: Johnny Depp is also appealing

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp's court battle will keep the public busy for a while. After Amber Heard appealed in court on Thursday, the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star did the same.

The actress came out of the defamation process as a loser, she has to pay Depp a high sum of millions. The 59-year-old was then allowed to celebrate with his fans. He's been touring with musician Jeff Beck and already has film projects in the pipeline.

But the seven-member jury ruled almost entirely against Amber Heard, but in one point they decided in favor of the actress. In one count, Johnny Depp was convicted of defamation because his attorney had called Heard's allegations that she suffered domestic violence "fraud". Depp was supposed to pay his ex-girlfriend $2 million.

A sum that tended to go under with the approximately ten million that Heard Depp has to pay. Depp's appeal, filed just a day after Heard's, can be seen as a tactical move by his attorneys. "The verdict speaks for itself and Mr. Depp believes it is time for both parties to move on with their lives and heal," a source close to Depp told Deadline magazine.

"But if Ms. Heard is determined to continue the litigation by appealing the verdict, Mr. Depp will file a concurrent appeal to ensure that the full file and all relevant legal issues are considered by the Court of Appeal," it said.

The appeals are the latest step in a legal battle between the former spouses that has been going on for years. Depp and Heard had already separated in spring 2016.
