George R. R. Martin: Because of Corona he misses the series premiere

No appearance for the cult author: George R. R. Martin (73) missed the premiere of the "Game of Thrones" prequel series "House of the Dragon" in Los Angeles on Wednesday (July 27). The 73-year-old had previously tested positive for the corona virus.

At the premiere, HBO and HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys said, according to The Hollywood Reporter, "Today I wanted to start by saying hello to George R.R. Martin and to tell you how great it is to have George with us on our journey to have." He added: "Unfortunately George caught Covid at Comic-Con so he's not here. I think he's fine so no need to worry."

The fantasy author, on whose works the hit series "Game of Thrones" and "House of the Dragon" are based, was at the presentation of the new TV show at Comic-Con in San Diego last week. Martin confirmed his positive corona test in a YouTube message. In addition to the premiere of "House of the Dragon", he also had to cancel several other appearances. He also reassured the fans: his symptoms were not bad, "I have a cold and I cough from time to time". He is "well taken care of. I take the medication" and he assumes that he will soon be fit again, says Martin.

The series "House of the Dragon" tells the story of the house of Targaryen, 200 years before the events of "Game of Thrones". The new TV show starts in Germany parallel to the US broadcast on Sky's streaming service Wow and via Sky Q - and on the evening of August 22nd from 8:15 p.m. also on Sky Atlantic. "House of the Dragon" should not only be shown in the original version, but probably also directly in German.

The first season consists of ten episodes. Among others, Matt Smith (39), Emma D'Arcy (30), Steve Toussaint (57), Rhys Ifans (54), Olivia Cooke (28) and Paddy Considine (48) play the leading roles in the series based on Martins Book "Fire
