The following dialogue took place in 1985. It is a tormenting, but quite typical questioning situation that Holocaust survivors could find themselves in decades after they had suffered.

The interviewee was Gittel H., who survived Theresienstadt as a small child and was less than three years old when it was liberated. The interviewer's name was Milton Kestenberg and he was the husband of the New York psychoanalyst Judith Kestenberg, who conducted numerous interviews with contemporary witnesses in the 1980s. It was the first major study to look specifically at Jews who experienced and survived the Holocaust as children.
