Great praise for the German women's national soccer team: Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (64, SPD) described their entry into the final of the European Championship on Twitter as a "great achievement". Germany beat France in the semifinals on Wednesday evening (July 27). Striker Alexandra Popp (31) scored two goals in Milton Keynes to make it 2-1.

Scholz also announced in his tweet that he would go to the final in London "and support the German team in the dream final against the hosts from England at Wembley Stadium". His party colleague, Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (52), had already cheered for the team in the semifinals in the stadium. She also cheered on Twitter: "FINALS!! Unbelievable, what an exciting game I was able to witness first hand in Milton Keynes yesterday. What goals, Alex Popp!"

There were also numerous congratulations from the football world for reaching the European Championship final. Former national soccer player Thomas Hitzlsperger (40) tweeted: "Congratulations DFB women - great performance!" He is looking forward to the final and is "convinced that you will bring the title to Germany". National player and Manchester City kicker Ilkay Gündogan (31) wrote: "If all German sports media don't recognize this achievement by the final on Sunday, then I don't know what to do anymore. Congratulations on reaching the final! Mega strong!"

Thomas Müller (32) called England against Germany a "dream final" on Twitter. "Congratulations on the great 2-1 win against France, DFB women," wrote the FC Bayern player. "Now get the trophy!" Oliver Kahn (53) also congratulated the footballers. "What an energetic performance, you've earned it so much," explained the FC Bayern board. The club itself also congratulated: "What a fight! Congratulations, DFB women!"

The footballers can not only be happy about their victory in the semifinals. The game against France also broke a record for TV ratings. As the media magazine "DWDL" reports, 12.19 million viewers cheered on ZDF - a tournament record. The market share among the total audience was 47.2 percent - among 14 to 49 year olds even 50.7 percent.
