After criticism, Boris Johnson's Chequers Wedding Party was moved

After criticisms of the venue, a Boris Johnson and Carrie Johnson wedding party will not be held at the prime Minister's country home.

According to newspaper reports, plans were being made for a party at Chequers on July 3.

According to a No 10 source, "nothing has been 100% fixed up" and an alternate location will be used.

Last year, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were married in a private ceremony at Westminster Cathedral.

A spokesperson for Downing Street stated that the couple would be celebrating again with friends and family during the summer of this year. Their honeymoon was also delayed until then.

However, plans for the wedding party were put under scrutiny following Mr Johnson's abrupt resignation as Tory leader Thursday after rebellion by his cabinet.

Chequers, a grace-and-favour country home in rural South-East England, is the official residence of the UK prime Minister.

The Chequers Trust owns the Buckinghamshire manor house from 16th century. It has an indoor swimming pool and hundreds of acres of grass. Prime ministers use it to entertain guests or host cabinet meetings.

Johnson announced his resignation, but Johnson intends to remain as prime minister until a successor is chosen. This could take several months.

Johnson's critics, including John Major, urged him to resign immediately. But he has continued to act as a caretaker and appointed another cabinet.

Expect a new Tory leader or prime minister to be installed in the autumn. Mr Johnson will remain in office until then.

Angela Rayner, Labour's deputy leader, suggested earlier that Johnson was staying on only because he wanted "a party at Chequers for the wedding".

She stated that Labour would introduce a motion de no confidence in Parliament before the summer recess unless Mr Johnson was forced out by the Conservative Party immediately.

The motion will likely fail because it would require Tory support. However, Ms Rayner stated that "the fact that he's trying desperately to hold on for the next few months is totally unacceptable."

James Cleverly, Education Secretary, was one of the newly appointed ministers. He said that he heard reports about plans to host the Chequers wedding party in July.

He told BBC that he believed that, if the leadership succession process was completed by that time, he suspects that the new prime minister would take a very generous step to allow that to happen.

"Private functions such as these do not place a burden on public funds."

Cleverly shared last year a photo of the Johnsons celebrating their wedding in Downing Street's garden after the ceremony.

Although Downing Street didn't reveal the number of guests invited to the ceremony, it did say that 30 was the maximum allowed by Covid-19 restrictions in England at that time.

The prime minister, who is 58 years old, has two children, Mrs Johnson, 34.

Mrs Johnson worked in the Conservative Party's press office, and was part of Mr Johnson's successful campaign for re-election as London mayor.

In early 2019, the media first linked the couple romantically. They announced their engagement in February 2020. Their son Wilfred was born in April 2020.
