After explosion on Crimean bridge: London: Russian supplies are increasingly running through Mariupol

At the beginning of October, the Crimean bridge near Kerch was severely damaged by an explosion. This means that an important supply route for the Russian armed forces is lost. According to British information, the occupied port city of Mariupol is gaining in importance as a result.

According to the British secret service, the supply problems of the Russian troops in southern Ukraine have worsened as a result of the damaged Crimean bridge. Trucks are still piling up on the bridge near Kerch, the Ministry of Defense said in London. "Repair work is ongoing and it is open to some traffic." However, according to the current situation report, there is still a long line of waiting trucks near the crossing.

The bridge, which is important for the supply of the Russian invasion troops in Ukraine, was severely damaged by an explosion on October 8th. The blast killed three people and started a major fire. Trucks currently have to use ferries to get across the water. According to the British experts, the Russian troops in southern Ukraine are therefore increasingly using an alternative supply line via the occupied Ukrainian city of Mariupol.

Accordingly, supply by land through the Zaporizhia district is also of growing importance. The city of Melitopol located there is a hub of supply lines and is the location of significant Russian air forces.

The British Ministry of Defense has published daily information on the course of the war since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine at the end of February, citing intelligence information. In doing so, the British government wants to both counter the Russian portrayal and keep allies in line. Moscow accuses London of a targeted disinformation campaign.
