After statements about US Jews: White House accuses Trump of anti-Semitism

Donald Trump is indignant about the Jews living in the United States, who allegedly do not appreciate his Israel policy enough. The scolded consider such instructions to be more than superfluous. The White House is also responding.

The White House has labeled statements by Donald Trump as anti-Semitic. The ex-president had accused American Jews of not appreciating his Israel policy enough. "As you all know, Donald Trump's statements were anti-Semitic and offensive, both to Jews and to our Israeli allies," White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said at a news conference Voiced in unison with extremists and anti-Semitic figures. "We must uproot anti-Semitism wherever it rears its ugly head," she said.

Trump claimed on Sunday on the online platform Truth Social, which he co-founded, that no president has done more for Israel than he has. Somewhat surprisingly, however, "our wonderful evangelicals appreciate this far more than people of the Jewish faith, especially those living in the United States." Jews in the US must pull themselves together and appreciate what they have in Israel "before it's too late." Trump has also complained on previous occasions about a lack of support from American Jews who underestimated his Israel policy. Trump moved the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Israel during his tenure. Together with his son-in-law Jared Kushner, he helped Israel reach diplomatic rapprochement with some neighboring Arab states.

Trump's statements were criticized on Monday by the Jewish organization Anti-Defamation League (ADL), among others. Its boss Jonathan Greenblatt wrote: "We don't need a former president endearing himself to extremists and anti-Semites to lecture us on US-Israeli relations". Trump's "Jewswplaning" is offensive and repulsive. Greenblatt also pointed out that Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner is Jewish and his daughter Ivanka has converted to the Jewish faith. It is "amazing" that Trump "continues to conjure up age-old anti-Semitic clichés" despite having Jewish children and grandchildren. He insinuates that Jews are not loyal, he used to suggest that they were greedy or had too much power. This is a "clear pattern for someone who has welcomed anti-Semites and extremists into public discourse.
