Baden-Württemberg: Green investments and annoying dead spots

Back from the USA, Prime Minister Kretschmann is back in the country's political reality. Green investments and closing dead spots are on the government's agenda. The disappointing results of the new school study also raise questions.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The state of Baden-Württemberg only wants to invest in sustainable financial investments in the future. On Tuesday, the green-black state government wants to decide on a draft law by finance minister Danyal Bayaz (Greens), according to which investments in shares or bonds of companies that pursue the 1.5 degree target of the Paris climate protection agreement are only permitted. Baden-Württemberg wants to be the first state to establish sustainability as another basic principle in investment decisions. It is about an investment volume of 17 billion euros, the largest part comes from reserves for the pension of civil servants.

In addition, the country wants to close the dead spots in the 5G network more quickly and facilitate the construction of mobile phone masts. The state building code should be changed for this purpose. Mobile phone masts should be able to be erected a little closer to buildings.

The government press conference with Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) in Stuttgart should also be about the disappointing results of the new school study, which were announced on Monday. Accordingly, fourth-grade students in the southwest have increasing problems with reading and listening. Almost every fifth child does not meet the minimum standards in German and mathematics. Since 2011 - that is, since Kretschmann has been in government - things have been going downhill. The opposition and unions accuse the Greens of neglecting elementary school for years.
