"important today": Farmers in 2022 - in the work-work balance

Even as a child, Bettina Hueske knew very well: I would take over my parents' farm. She is now responsible for 140 cows, among other things, has set up a farm shop and shows on Instagram as "Farmer Bettina" how country life works. Not everything is as romantic as it seems for a long time now, she says in the 326th edition of the podcast "Today's Important": "For several years it has been extremely difficult to keep the farm running financially. Especially in dairy cattle In that area, in the last two or three years, it was actually almost impossible, so we had to finance it completely from outside and see that we could somehow pay the bills, and that's also the reason for many that they just don't continue the farm anymore ."

Although Bettina Hueske is basically on call 24 hours a day because a cow is about to calf or maybe the milking machine breaks down, she lives for this job. "We always call it work-work balance - but in fact the reasons why we do this job are working in nature, with animals, in the cycle of nature, also being your own boss, of course, also showing responsibility ."

But one thing is particularly important to farmer Bettina: "What is super important is that you don't just say that you want to buy regionally, but also actually do it. Every consumer wants that in surveys, in the end the cheap frozen goods are in the shopping basket from abroad and that doesn't help us farmers in Germany," said Bettina in the "today important" interview. At least those who can afford it should rather use regional products and sometimes do without non-seasonal products.

Sure, opinionated, on the 12: "important today" is not just a news podcast. We set topics and initiate debates - with attitude and sometimes uncomfortable. Host Michel Abdollahi and his team of stern and RTL reporters speak to the most exciting people from politics, society and entertainment. They let all voices have their say, both the quiet and the loud. Anyone who hears "important today" starts the day well-informed and can have a well-founded say.
