Scholz' spokesman classifies: climate activists daub traffic light party headquarters

The climate activists of the "last generation" are continuing - despite sharp criticism of their recent road blockade in Berlin. This time they are targeting the headquarters of all traffic light government parties.

Climate demonstrators have protested with various actions in front of the party headquarters of the traffic light government in Berlin. According to the police, three people stuck themselves to the facade of the federal office of the Greens in Berlin-Mitte. In addition, the facade and a car were painted orange. A police spokeswoman said a total of six people took part in the action in the late morning. At about the same time there were actions at the party headquarters of the SPD and FDP.

At the Willy Brandt House in Kreuzberg, two women emptied a fire extinguisher and smeared the exterior. At the FDP, two people stuck to the house entrance. Police were on site at all locations.

The climate protest group "Last Generation" said about the actions that the party headquarters of all governing parties had been sprayed with orange paint. "Orange color is associated a lot with the last generation through safety vests and banners, but also with orange prison overalls," it said. "The death spiral from climate tipping points is already starting to turn, and neither party has a plan to get it under control," the protest group commented on its actions.

Despite the attacks by climate activists on the party headquarters of the traffic light coalition, the federal government does not want to speak of terrorism. "I would be a bit careful with the choice of words," said government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit in response to a question from journalists. The recent graffiti is a misdemeanor, but he doesn't want to endorse the term terrorism.

In the past few days, the protest group "Last Generation" had received a lot of criticism after various actions. On Monday, the activists already blocked several streets in the capital, which, according to the fire department, delayed the rescue of an accident victim. Against this background, Chancellor Olaf Scholz called for "always bearing in mind that this does not endanger others" with any form of protest.
