Are young people greener than their parents? The question arises after the results of a survey carried out by the Alliance France Tourisme (AFT) and published in Le Journal du Dimanche. The vast majority of 18-34 year olds still prefer the car or the plane to go on vacation. However, half (53%) of young people surveyed say they always or often choose their means of transport based on the ecological impact.
But the car is the most cited means of transport (65%) for going on vacation, ahead of the plane (54%). The train (35%) comes in third place, and only one in ten young people use carpooling. Finally, 87% of young people surveyed would "definitely or probably" accept a free plane ticket to spend a weekend in Europe, according to the study.
The destination is unsurprising: 18-34 year olds usually go on vacation to the same places they spent growing up. For example at the sea (51%), in the mountains in summer (24%), in the countryside (22%), in the city (21%), skiing (16%) or in amusement parks (16%). The young people surveyed by the study overwhelmingly agree (70%) "totally or generally" with the way of travel of their parents. "Individually, many tend to reproduce what they knew as children," said Stephanie Morel, group leader at Ipsos Digital, to the newspaper.
Faced with inflation, young people watch their expenses: 84% choose their means of transport "always or often" according to the price. This summer, many plan to go to France (49%), ahead of Europe (37%) and the rest of the world. More than one in two (56%) think they are reducing their holiday budget.
