National basketball coach Gordon Herbert is planning the next three major event years with a solid core of national players.
"We have a three-year program. Then we have the World Cup and hopefully the Olympics. We want to form a hard core that can compete in all three tournaments," said Herbert on the sidelines of the public training session in Cologne.
The 63-year-old coach hopes that Nick Weiler-Babb, who has just been naturalized, can also be part of this team. The FC Bayern Munich professional had traveled to the USA for family reasons in the past few days immediately after his naturalization.
This year, the European Championships at home with games in Cologne and Berlin are on the agenda from September 1st to 18th. In late summer 2023, the World Cup awaits in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines, for which the German team still has to qualify. In 2024 the Olympic Games will take place in Paris. Last year, the German team reached the quarterfinals at the Olympics in Tokyo. The target for the home European Championship is a medal.
