United Airlines to begin service to San Francisco from Sonoma County airport

It’s official: United Airlines will become the fourth major air carrier offering service out of Sonoma County starting June 8 with three daily departures to San Francisco and connections around the globe.

“Business and leisure travelers now have conveniently timed flights to San Francisco and multiple opportunities to connect passengers to other cities throughout the Western U.S. and beyond,” Anthony Toth, United’s managing director of sales, said Monday in a statement.

United’s departures out of Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport will be at 6 a.m., 2:05 p.m. and 5:20 p.m.

Arrivals are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. 4:40 p.m., and 11:15 p.m.

Passengers will fly on a 50-seat Bombardier CRJ-200 jet. The flights will be operated by Skywest Airlines as United Express.

A Thursday to Sunday flight from Sonoma County to Denver in June was going for $484 round-trip Monday on United’s website.

United discontinued similar service to San Francisco from Sonoma County in 2001.

Officials say the 40-minute flights, besides offering connections to far-flung destinations, are a way to avoid the hassle and expense of driving to San Francisco and parking at the airport there.

United will be the fourth major carrier offering service out of Sonoma County.

Alaska Airlines offers between seven and nine daily flights out of Sonoma County, depending on the season. American Airlines debuted a daily nonstop flight to Phoenix-Sky Harbor International Airport on Feb. 16, marking the first direct connections from Sonoma County to a major hub east of California. And Allegiant Airlines offers a weekly nonstop flight from Sonoma County to Las Vegas.
