Baden-Württemberg: Significantly more corona patients in intensive care units

Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - Uncomfortable autumn weather is increasingly pushing people indoors, where viruses spread more easily. And so the number of corona infections in the southwest is also increasing significantly again. 140 Covid 19 patients would be cared for in the intensive care units in Baden-Württemberg, as the state health office announced on Thursday in Stuttgart. That's an increase of 47 cases compared to the previous week. 1,374 people with Covid-19 were last treated in the normal wards, 519 more than seven days ago. The state health department does not differentiate whether a person is being treated for or with an infection.

The nationwide seven-day incidence was 536.9. In the previous week, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants was 412.1 within seven days. Most experts agree that a renewed increase in the number of cases will in all likelihood not overwhelm the healthcare system. The background is that the omicron variant BA.5 of the coronavirus is extremely contagious, but the health consequences are usually not that serious.
