Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Senior ticket starts later: Germany ticket comes first

Schwerin/Berlin (dpa/mv) - Due to the nationwide plans for the introduction of the Deutschlandticket, the nationwide senior citizen ticket in the north-east will only start later. The start originally planned for January 2023 has been postponed, but the state government is sticking to the plans, said Transport Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD) on Monday in Schwerin. Overall, however, the coordination between the state, municipalities and companies has made good progress. The ticket should cost 365 euros per year.

With a view to the nationwide 9-euro ticket successor, Meyer said: "The financial risk must not be left solely with the public transport authorities and the transport companies," the profitability must be maintained. The state minister called for the federal government to be obliged to make additional payments if the previous budget of 3 billion euros was exceeded.

On Tuesday, the transport ministers of the federal states will meet for the transport ministers' conference, which is to take place as a video switching conference.
