Rostock (dpa/mv) - Despite a slight decrease in the previous week, the number of colds in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania remains at a high level. It will not be known until mid-January at the earliest whether the peak has already been reached, said the first director of the State Office for Health and Social Affairs, Heiko Will, on Wednesday in Rostock.
The colds (acute respiratory diseases /ARE) decreased in the 51st calendar week (19.-25.12) for the first time in weeks. According to the State Office, 25.7 percent of all people who consulted a pediatrician or general practitioner were ARE patients. Extrapolated to the MV population, this corresponds to a value of 4284 doctor visits for ARE per 100,000 inhabitants.
The 41 day-care centers participating in the 51st calendar week also reported that around 15.4 percent of the children cared for did not come to the day-care center because of a cold. Two weeks ago, this value was still over 20 percent nationwide.
The state office has been observing the development of the various colds with particular attention since October 3rd. The picture presented by the eleven issues of the ARE weekly report published so far is clear: "A huge wave of colds is rolling through MV." The next report will appear on January 11, 2023.
