North Rhine-Westphalia: ARD shows New Year's Eve service from Gasometer Oberhausen

Oberhausen (dpa / lnw) - On Saturday (4 p.m.) ARD will show an ecumenical New Year's Eve service from the gasometer in Oberhausen. An exhibition about the fragility of the earth can be seen there - this is a suitable setting for the service at the end of this year, wrote the diocese of Essen.

"Many certainties have been called into question this year, and the global challenge of climate change is seldom before our eyes. It's good to speak of our concerns and our hopes in front of the great globe of the Gasometer," said the Catholic Pastor Gereon Alter. He holds the service together with the evangelical theologian Sarah Vecera from the United Evangelical Mission in Wuppertal.

The prayers that are presented in the service come from visitors to the Gasometer exhibition. People often wrote down their concerns about climate change and war. "Your worries and needs, your requests should have a place in this special service at the end of the year," said Vecera. The service was recorded in November.
