North Rhine-Westphalia: Child abuse verdict: renewed hearing

The father of two small children was sentenced to 13 years in prison in Mönchengladbach a year and a half ago. On Wednesday, the court will hear the case again after the man appealed.

Mönchengladbach (dpa / lnw) - A father convicted of serious child abuse was again in the dock of the Mönchengladbach district court on Wednesday (9:00 a.m.). By order of the Federal Court of Justice, his punishment must be decided again. In the first instance, the 25-year-old had been sentenced to a total of 13 years in prison in eight individual cases for severe abuse of his two small children. The Federal Court of Justice sees the mistreatment as an act that must also be punished as such.

The 25-year-old had seriously injured his five-week-old son in early 2021 and severely abused his 17-month-old daughter. The son suffered permanent brain damage. A four-year youth sentence was imposed on the child's mother, who had done nothing. The penalty is final.
