Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) - The fruit and vegetable canning industry in North Rhine-Westphalia increased its sales by 2.9 percent last year. As the State Statistical Office reported on Monday in Düsseldorf, the 66 largest companies with 20 or more employees sold products worth around 2.6 billion euros, a good 74 million euros more than in 2020. Almost 44 percent of the value was sold in companies in the Governing district of Cologne. With a good 32 percent, almost a third of the fruit and vegetable products produced nationwide last year came from North Rhine-Westphalia. In 2020, this value was still below 32 percent.
According to preliminary figures, sales in NRW in the first quarter of 2022 were almost seven percent higher than in the same period of the previous year at EUR 657 million. This time the data came from only 62 companies in NRW.
