North Rhine-Westphalia: truck drives to end of traffic jam: woman critically injured

Holzwickede (dpa / lnw) - A 40-year-old driver was critically injured in an accident on the A1 near Holzwickede (Unna district). Your 28-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries in the accident on Friday evening, the police said on Saturday. The car had therefore been pushed by a truck under the rear of a stationary semitrailer. Firefighters extricated the driver and her passenger from the vehicle. To do this, several parts had to be cut out of the car. Both were then taken to the hospital and operated on there. The slightly injured truck driver was freed from his vehicle by accident witnesses.

According to the police, the 40-year-old had previously overlooked the end of the traffic jam on the A1 and therefore drove his truck into the 40-year-old woman's car. The force of the impact pushed the truck of a 50-year-old man, under whom her car was pushed, onto another car in front of him. Its 55-year-old driver was not injured.

The A1 towards Bremen remained closed for about four hours after the accident. According to the police, traffic was backed up for up to twelve kilometers. The resulting damage was therefore estimated at a total of 100,000 euros.
