Thuringia: Association: Willingness to donate to refugees is decreasing

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Six months after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, according to an association, the willingness to donate to war refugees in Thuringia is decreasing. That applies to monetary donations as well as donations in kind, said a spokeswoman for the Association of Ukrainian Compatriots on request. Immediately after the outbreak of war in the spring, many private individuals made donations to the association. The fact that this has decreased over time was not unexpected. However, there is still a certain group of supporters. These are "very determined" to continue to help.

In the first few weeks after the invasion, members of the association brought people affected by the war from the Ukraine to Thuringia, among other things. They set up a collection point for donations in kind - such as furniture, household goods or clothing. This is still in operation.

Since then, volunteer work has changed. According to the spokeswoman, the most important thing now is to accompany refugees when they are looking for an apartment, when they go to the authorities and when they visit the doctor. Leisure activities and events for children are organized. In addition, medicines for Ukrainian hospitals would be bought with the help of donations. The club claims to have 25 members.
