Thuringia: car attack on police officers: BGH confirms judgment

Erfurt/Karlsruhe (dpa/th) - The Federal Court of Justice (BGH) has confirmed a judgment by the Erfurt Regional Court against a man for attempted murder. The BGH rejected the man's appeal against the guilty verdict of the Erfurt judges from last year as unfounded, as the court announced on Thursday. The re-examination of the verdict did not result in any legal error to the detriment of the accused (Az.: 4 StR 21/22; decision of May 11).

The district court had considered it proven that the accused had run over a police officer's foot with his car during a chase in Apolda in the summer of 2020 and had seriously injured him. The then 40-year-old had been sentenced to eight years in prison for, among other things, attempted murder, dangerous bodily harm and assault on law enforcement officers. With the decision of the BGH, the judgment is final.
