Emmanuel Macron proposed that Jean Castex, former Prime Minister of France, be appointed chairman of the board directors of France's Transport Infrastructure Financing Agency. This was announced by the Elysee on Thursday.

AFITF, a French public institution, is responsible for financing France's road, rail, river, and port infrastructure. Its funding sources are varied as it receives a portion of the domestic consumption tax on fuel products (TICPE), a payment to motorway concession companies or a part of automatic speed camera fines.

Jean Castex, who was unable to resume activity since May 16th, had "accepted" the proposal. He recalled his "old and well-established love for transport", particularly trains, and said that he would accept this offer.
