Accident: horse owner from Saxony had an accident on the A14: horse dead

A horse ran away at the weekend after an accident on Autobahn 14 south of Schwerin, then had another accident - and had to be put to sleep. As a police spokesman said on Sunday, the two accidents occurred in the dark on Saturday night in the direction of Dresden not far from Wöbbelin (Ludwigslust-Parchim).

According to the previous investigations, the 22-year-old horse owner left the roadway to the right with her car and horse trailer north of the Schwerin motorway junction. The woman from the Vogtland district steered against it, skidded and crashed left with the trailer against the middle barrier of the A14. The horse trailer overturned.

The horse fled and trotted about two kilometers further south. There - at the motorway junction near Wöbbelin - it was hit by the car of a 40-year-old driver who had not seen the animal in the dark. The horse was so badly injured that a vet could only put it to sleep, the police spokesman said.

According to police, the horse owner and the driver were unharmed. The A14 was closed southbound for two and a half hours. The total damage to both vehicles and the horse trailer was estimated at almost 25,000 euros.
