Alec Baldwin has just managed to win his first victory in court when the next trial is about to begin. Several members of the 'Rust' crew are suing for mental health issues since the accidental shooting on set that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Just a few days after his first major court victory, Alec Baldwin suffered a blow when three other crew members from the "Rust" production are now suing the actor because they suffered trauma and psychological problems as a result of the fatal shooting accident on set.
According to People magazine, the lawsuit was filed last Friday in Santa Fe court, where the film was shot. It states, among other things: "These damages were caused by the fact that the defendants did not comply with the safety regulations of the industry." The plaintiffs allege that the film's producers, including Baldwin, "ignored reports of multiple firearm discharges and shot the film too quickly with understaffing."
All three were there when camerawoman Halyna Hutchins was fatally hit by a bullet from a gun while filming in October 2021. Director Joel Souza was also injured but has since recovered. Baldwin was preparing for a scene when he pointed the gun at the camerawoman and a shot went off. Neither Baldwin nor his attorney have commented on the new lawsuit.
The 64-year-old actor is currently facing multiple charges but has since denied any responsibility for the incident. Just a few days ago, the star accused of negligently killing camerawoman Halyna Hutchins celebrated his first major victory in court. The additional charge of negligent homicide in connection with the use of firearms was dropped, reducing the potential sentence from five years to a maximum of 18 months. The public prosecutor wanted to retrospectively apply the relevant law, which only came into force after the fatal accident in October 2021. After the objection of Baldwin's lawyers, however, this plan failed.
